Here are some of the emerging technologies that have application in teaching.  As I have time to examine a variety of new technologies, I will post them here.

  • RSS - I use RSS feeds to create student learning communities.  These feeds are relatively easy to set up and switch the paradigm from teacher-centered top-down content to student-centered peer-to-peer content using feeds, aggregation, and syndication techniques.
  • Podcasting - Podcasting uses RSS to encapsulate feeds of audio content.  If you see students walking around wearing white earpieces, they are candidates for podcasting.
  • Blogging - Weblogging is a new form of interaction that gives instant publication ability to anyone with a blog site.  It uses RSS to syndicated blog entries and make them available to subscribers.
  • Wiki - If you really want to see what a user-contributed, open source project can be like, visit the wikipedia.  It's just the tip of the iceburg.
